31 Days of Dracula: 09 Zandor Vorkov

31 Days of Dracula: 09 Zandor Vorkov

Kicking off the 70s is 1971’s Dracula Vs. Frankenstein. This one is difficult to sit through. It sounded promising enough, a funky film pitting the two biggest monsters against each other. Dracula sounds like he recorded his audio from the bottom of a deep well. Lon Chaney (Son of Dracula) is completely wasted as an axe wielding drunken hillbilly under the Count’s spell. This one is only for the completists and die hard fans.

Zombie

#26 in the Halloween Series is the Zombie. The month is almost over and I’ve done most of the popular monsters. How could I forget the Zombie. I am a fan of the Old school zombie movies like White Zombie and Night of the Living Dead, but recently I think Walking Dead kills them all.

#11 Orson Welles

Its Orson Welles! It’s not the first thing you think of when you think of Halloween. But this is the man who produced and voice acted the Mercury Radio Theatre’s version of Dracula. On October 30th, the night before Halloween in 1938, Welles frightened the whole country with their production of “War of the Worlds”. Acrylic on canvas 8″ x 8″ original painting available at my ETSY store.

#9 Trick or Treat!

Image

Trick or Treating has been the highlight of the Halloween season for many kids.  According to WIKIPEDIA, the children and poor would go “soiling” from door to door where they would say a prayer for the dead and get cake in return.  Many cultures celebrate this holiday. In Mexico, Day of the Dead is celebrated the day after Halloween.  In southeast Michigan the day before Halloween was known as Devil’s night where arsonists would burn whole neighborhoods and businesses. Luckily this has died down since the 1990s.  This piece is going for $45.00 in my ETSY store.
